Quick answer:
For most Pakistani families, Malaysia is the easiest all-round choice: an online eVisa, halal food everywhere, English widely spoken and plenty for children of every age. Thailand is usually the best value, with beaches, safari parks and great food, but you need to plan halal meals. Turkey gives the richest experience, with history, mosques, snow or beaches and Cappadocia's balloons, but the visa takes the most paperwork and the trip needs more days. Pick Malaysia for ease, Thailand for value and fun, and Turkey for culture and a "once in a lifetime" feel.
Every year, as school holidays come closer, the same question lands in our WhatsApp from families in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad: "We want to go abroad with the kids. Turkey, Malaysia or Thailand?" All three are popular with Pakistani travellers for good reason, but they suit different families in different ways.
This guide compares the three countries honestly, the way our team at Tours in Pakistan explains it to families before they book. We look at visas for Pakistani passport holders, flights, halal food, children's activities, weather, budget and how many days you really need. By the end you should know which country fits your family, and what a sensible first itinerary looks like.

Malaysia: the easiest family holiday from Pakistan
If this is your family's first trip abroad, Malaysia is the country we recommend most often. It feels familiar in the ways that matter (azaan from the mosques, halal food on every corner, Friday prayers wherever you are) while still feeling modern and exciting for children. English is widely spoken, roads and public transport are good, and hotels are used to families with children.
Why Pakistani families love Malaysia
- Halal everywhere. From food courts to five-star hotels, you rarely have to ask. Elders who worry about food abroad relax quickly here.
- Easy for all ages. Theme parks and aquariums for kids, shopping for teens and parents, and calm gardens and mosques for grandparents.
- Simple visa. Pakistani passport holders apply for an eVisa online, without visiting an embassy in most cases.
- Short distances. Kuala Lumpur, Genting Highlands and Putrajaya are all within about an hour or so of each other by road.
Top family experiences in Malaysia
- Kuala Lumpur: the Petronas Twin Towers, Aquaria KLCC, KL Bird Park, Batu Caves (272 colourful steps, so go early) and a day at Sunway Lagoon water and theme park.
- Putrajaya: the pink Putra Mosque and the lakeside boulevards, a peaceful half day that grandparents enjoy.
- Genting Highlands: a long cable car ride up through the rainforest, cool weather and theme parks at the top.
- Langkawi: calm beaches, the SkyCab cable car and Sky Bridge, island hopping and mangrove boat trips. It is perfect for slowing down after the city.
- Penang: colourful street art, a heritage old town and some of the best street food in Asia.
Sample 7-day Malaysia family itinerary

- Day 2: Kuala Lumpur city tour, Petronas Towers, Aquaria KLCC and an evening at the KLCC park fountains.
- Day 3: Putrajaya and Batu Caves, with an evening at a shopping mall.
- Day 4: Genting Highlands by cable car, with theme parks and cool weather.
- Day 5: Fly to Langkawi, a short domestic flight, then a beach afternoon.

Things to know
Malaysia is hot and humid all year, with short, heavy rain showers most afternoons. Pack light cotton clothes, umbrellas and a light jacket for Genting. The west coast islands such as Langkawi and Penang are at their best from about December to April, while the east coast has its monsoon from roughly November to March.
Thailand: the best value family holiday
Thailand packs a lot into a short trip. In one week, children can see tigers and giraffes at a safari park, swim in clear water, ride a longtail boat and eat mango sticky rice at a night market. For many families it also works out the most affordable of the three, especially outside the December peak.
Why Pakistani families choose Thailand
- Great value. Hotels, food and activities usually cost less than in Turkey, and often less than in Malaysia.
- Beaches and islands. Phuket, Krabi and the Phi Phi islands are some of the most beautiful in Asia.
- Kids' attractions. Safari World, SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World, Dream World and water parks keep children busy for days.
- Short flight. Bangkok is often the quickest of the three to reach from Pakistan.
Halal food in Thailand: what to expect
This is the question we get most often. Thailand is a Buddhist-majority country, but it has a large Muslim community, especially in the south. Halal restaurants are easy to find in Bangkok (around Sukhumvit and Pratunam, for example), in Phuket and in Krabi, where many local families are Muslim. Look for the Thai halal certification logo. Outside these areas, it takes more planning. We choose hotels near halal options and can arrange halal meals on tours and island trips.
Top family experiences in Thailand
- Bangkok: the Grand Palace, a boat ride on the Chao Phraya river, Safari World, SEA LIFE Bangkok and the big shopping malls.
- Pattaya: Nong Nooch Tropical Garden, Coral Island boat trips and water parks. Stay on the quieter family side, such as Jomtien, rather than in the nightlife area.
- Phuket: calm family beaches like Kata and Karon, a day trip to the Phi Phi islands and Old Phuket Town.
- Krabi: limestone cliffs, island hopping and a relaxed pace, plus a strong local Muslim community.
- Chiang Mai: cooler hills, temples and ethical elephant sanctuaries where you watch and feed elephants instead of riding them.
Sample 7-day Thailand family itinerary
- Day 1: Arrive in Bangkok, then an evening river cruise with dinner.
- Day 2: Safari World and Marine Park, a full day the kids will remember.
- Day 3: The Grand Palace in the morning and SEA LIFE Bangkok or a mall in the afternoon.
- Day 4: Fly to Phuket and spend the afternoon on the beach.
- Day 5: Phi Phi islands day trip by boat.
- Day 6: A free day, with an Old Phuket Town or water park option.
- Day 7: Fly home via Bangkok.

Things to know
The best time for a family trip is November to February, when it is cooler and drier. March to May is very hot, and June to October brings the monsoon, when some island boat trips are cancelled because of rough seas. Dress modestly when visiting temples and the Grand Palace (shoulders and knees covered).
Turkey: the richest family experience
Turkey is the country families talk about for years afterwards. Children who read about the Ottomans see the Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace with their own eyes. Teens get their Cappadocia balloon photos. Parents get the Bosphorus at sunset. Grandparents get to pray in some of the most beautiful mosques in the Muslim world. Add halal food everywhere and a strong sense of shared history, and it is easy to see why Turkey is a favourite with Pakistani families.
Why Pakistani families love Turkey
- History and faith together. Istanbul's mosques, the Ottoman palaces and the tombs of the Sahaba around Eyüp give the trip real meaning.
- Halal everywhere, with food that Pakistani palates enjoy, such as kebabs, pide, baklava and fresh bread.
- Every season works. You get snow in Bursa (Uludağ) and Cappadocia in winter, and beaches in Antalya in summer.
- Warm welcome. Pakistanis are often greeted with real warmth in Turkey.
Top family experiences in Turkey
- Istanbul: the Sultanahmet (Blue) Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, a Bosphorus cruise, the Grand Bazaar, Miniaturk and the Isfanbul theme park.
- Cappadocia: sunrise hot air balloons, cave hotels, horse riding through the valleys and the underground cities. Most balloon operators set a minimum age and height for children, so we check this for your family.
- Bursa and Uludağ: a cable car to the snow in winter, plus the historic Ulu Cami.
- Sapanca and Maşukiye: lakes, forests and riverside restaurants, an easy day trip from Istanbul.
- Antalya: family beach resorts, waterfalls, the old town and the Land of Legends theme park in Belek.
- Pamukkale: the white travertine terraces and the ancient city of Hierapolis.
Sample 9-day Turkey family itinerary
- Day 1: Arrive in Istanbul and spend a relaxed evening in Sultanahmet.
- Day 2: The Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace and the Grand Bazaar.
- Day 3: A Bosphorus cruise, the Eyüp Sultan Mosque and the Pierre Loti cable car.
- Day 4: A day trip to Sapanca and Maşukiye, or Bursa and Uludağ in winter.

- Day 6: Sunrise balloon watching or a flight, plus the valleys and an underground city.

Things to know
Turkey is a big country, and the best family trips use short domestic flights between regions instead of long road journeys. Allow at least 8 days. Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) are the most comfortable. Winter is cold, with snow in Cappadocia and Bursa, which children love if you pack properly. July and August are hot in Istanbul and on the coast.
The visa is the biggest hurdle. Most Pakistani families apply for a sticker visa through the Turkish visa application centre, with documents such as bank statements and employment letters. Families who already hold a valid US, UK, Schengen or Irish visa may be eligible for the simpler e-Visa. Start at least 4 to 6 weeks before travel.
Head to head: which country wins for your family?
Which country is easiest for a first trip abroad?
Malaysia. The online eVisa, halal food, English signs and short distances make it the least stressful choice for families travelling abroad for the first time.
Which is best for halal food?
Malaysia and Turkey are equal winners, since both are Muslim-majority countries where halal is the norm. Thailand works well too, but you need to choose areas and restaurants with care.
Which is best for small children (under 6)?
Malaysia, followed by Thailand. Both have easy days, short transfers, aquariums, parks and pools. Turkey involves more walking and more internal travel, which can tire small children.
Which is best for teenagers?
Turkey, for the balloons, history, snow or beaches and the photos. Thailand's islands and water activities come a close second.
Which is best for grandparents?
Malaysia for comfort and short drives, or Turkey if visiting Istanbul's historic mosques matters to them. With grandparents, we plan fewer hotel changes and add rest time.
Which is the cheapest family holiday from Pakistan?
Thailand usually costs the least overall, then Malaysia, with Turkey usually the highest because of longer trips and domestic flights. Your actual cost depends on the season, the hotel category, the number of days and the airline. We send a clear quote once we know your plans.
Choose Malaysia if
it is your first trip abroad, you have young children or elders, and you want halal food and an easy visa with no surprises.
Choose Thailand if
you want beaches, wildlife and theme parks for the best value, and you are happy to plan your meals a little.
Choose Turkey if
you want history, faith and scenery in one trip, have 8 days or more, and can manage the visa paperwork.
Best time to go: winter break vs summer holidays
| Holiday period | Malaysia | Thailand | Turkey |
|---|---|---|---|
| December to February (winter break) | Good, with the west coast and Langkawi at their best | Excellent, the peak season, so book early | Cold, with snow in Bursa and Cappadocia. Great if your kids want snow |
| March to April (spring, Eid in some years) | Good | Very hot | Pleasant, with tulip season in Istanbul in April |
| June to August (summer holidays) | Good, warm with showers | Monsoon, some boat trips cancelled | Hot, with Antalya beach season |
| September to November | Good | Improving from November | Excellent, mild and less crowded |
Pakistani school holidays and Eid breaks are peak times for all three countries. Flights and good family hotels fill up fast, so start planning about two to three months ahead, and earlier for December.
Visa documents for Pakistani families
Each country has its own forms and rules, but most family visa applications ask for similar documents. Having these ready saves weeks:
- Passports valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date, with blank pages
- Recent passport-size photos on a white background, to each country's specification
- CNICs of the parents, and the B-Form or Family Registration Certificate (FRC) for children
- Bank statements for the last few months, showing enough funds for the trip
- An employment letter or NOC, or business registration documents if self-employed
- Confirmed hotel bookings and return flight reservations
- An NOC from the other parent if a child is travelling with only one parent
Visa assistance is part of every package we arrange. We tell you exactly which documents your family needs for your chosen country, check them before submission and provide hotel and flight confirmations. Rules and fees change, so we always confirm the current requirements with official sources before you apply.
Practical tips before you fly
- Travel insurance: get a family policy that covers medical treatment abroad. Hospital bills overseas can be very high.
- Mobile data: buy a local SIM or an eSIM at the airport so you can use maps and WhatsApp.
- Plugs: Malaysia uses the UK-style three-pin plug. Turkey uses European round-pin plugs, and Thailand accepts several types. Pack a universal adapter.
- Money: carry some US dollars to exchange and a debit or credit card enabled for international use. Tell your bank before you travel.
- Prayer: mosques and prayer rooms are everywhere in Malaysia and Turkey. In Thailand, malls and airports often have prayer rooms, and we note mosques near your hotels.
- Pace: plan one easy day after every two busy days. Tired children make tired parents.
