Shigar was once the seat of the Amacha rulers. Their fort has been beautifully restored and now houses a museum and a heritage stay.
Nearby, the Amburiq Mosque is one of the oldest in Baltistan, with fine wooden carving. The orchards around the village are some of the prettiest in the region.
