Five days is the best length for a first Skardu trip. It covers the Kachura lakes, Katpana desert, Shigar Valley and, from late June to September, Deosai, with a spare half day for flight delays. Fly in from Islamabad; add two days if you want to drive one way.

Morning flight from Islamabad. Check in, rest, then an easy afternoon at Lower Kachura (Shangrila) and the short walk to Upper Kachura Lake.
Tip: Keep the first afternoon light while you adjust to 2,200 m.
Morning at Satpara Lake, afternoon views from Kharpocho Fort over the Indus, and sunset on the Katpana Cold Desert dunes.
Drive to Shigar for the restored fort, Amburiq Mosque and orchard lanes. Stop at the Sarfaranga Cold Desert on the way back.
Full-day jeep trip up to the plateau at over 4,000 m: Bara Pani, Sheosar Lake and wide wildflower meadows. Warm layers essential.
Tip: Outside late June–September, swap Deosai for Manthokha Waterfall.
A free morning for shopping or a lake walk, then the return flight. If the flight is cancelled, this is your buffer; we switch to road if needed.
Flight buffer built in. Day 5 is deliberately light so a delayed flight doesn’t cost you a sightseeing day. Overseas visitors should also keep a spare day in Islamabad before flying home.

Yes, but the road from Islamabad via Chilas takes about two days each way. Add two days to drive one way; driving both ways suits a longer trip.
