Skardu for International Tourists

Visas, permits, flights, culture and safety: everything foreign visitors need to plan Baltistan with confidence.

Quick Answer

Foreign tourists can visit Skardu with a valid Pakistan visa, usually obtained online as an e-visa. Skardu itself needs no special permit, but K2 and Baltoro trekking routes require extra permits, which operators arrange. Fly in from Islamabad with a buffer day, or drive back to protect your onward international flight.

Visa and permit rules change. Always check current requirements before booking.

Culture and Etiquette in Baltistan

Baltistan’s people are famously hospitable. You may be invited for tea, and a smile goes a long way. Dress modestly, with shoulders and knees covered, and ask before photographing people, especially women.

Friday is the weekly prayer day, and mosques such as Amburiq and Chaqchan are working places of worship. We brief every guest before the trip.
